Chama River Wilderness

The Chama River Wilderness is a 50,300 acre Wilderness in the Santa Fe National Forest. The majority of the Wilderness surrounds the Chama River, which starts in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado and joins in the Rio Grande in Espanola.

The Wilderness is most heavily used by boaters, floating the river from El Vado Dam to Abiquiu Lake. The Continental Divide Trail also crosses through the Wilderness, which was designated in 1978.
