The Hamilton Mesa Trail is 11.1 miles long and goes from the Jacks Creek trailhead and ends at the Gascon Trail – Trail #239.
Trail Condition: Good to Excellent
The trail remains in Good to Excellent condition from Iron Gate to the Bob Grounds Trail.
Although the Hamilton Mesa Trail technically begins at the Jack’s Creek Trailhead, the more common access point is from the Iron Gate trailhead.
From Iron Gate, the wide, well-marked trail switchbacks gentle onto the ridge of Hamilton Mesa. After a mile, it leaves the forest cover and enters the grassy, open terrain of the mesa. It continues along the west side of the mesa, crossing through occasional stands of aspen while offering spectacular views of the peaks to the west.
Shortly after the junction with the Bob Grounds Trail – Trail #270, Trail #249 reenters the forest while remaining atop the mesa. The views disappear, but the trail remains in good condition throughout this section.
The trail ends at a T-junction with the Gascon Trail – Trail #239.
