Wheeler Peak Wilderness

At 19,661 acres, the Wheeler Peak Wilderness is one of New Mexico’s smallest Wilderness Areas, but is also home to the state’s highest peak – Wheeler Peak (13,161 ft). Designated in 1964, the Wheeler Peak Wilderness includes some of the best high alpine habitat in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It is located in the Carson National Forest.
