White Mountain Wilderness

Covering roughly 48,000 acres of the Lincoln National Forest in southeast New Mexico, the White Mountain Wilderness includes some of the best alpine habitat in this corner of the state. It was established as a Primitive Area in 1933, and upgraded to a Wilderness in 1964. It covers much of the Sierra Blanca Mountains as well as part of the Mescalero Apache reservation.
